Support for Academic Programs

A passion for teaching and an academic culture that nurtures and celebrates great teachers are revered traditions at Brown. Faculty relish lively engagement with students who expect intellectual give and take. "When you allow for a much wider range of faculty-student interaction, you have exponentially increased the kinds of educational possibilities available for students," says Katherine Bergeron, Dean of the College.

Expanding Brown's faculty and empowering professors to do what they do best are top priorities of the Campaign. In the 2007-2008 academic year alone we have welcomed 43 new faculty members, bringing the total faculty to a record-setting 679 -- and significantly closer toward the goal of adding 100 new faculty members. The Campaign seeks support not only for more faculty recruitment, but also for endowed professorships to attract and retain faculty who are both exceptional teachers and productive researchers, and for investments in curricular innovations and library resources.
