Among the new generation of
faculty and students on campus
are Arlene Keizer (shown at
right), associate professor of
English and American civilization,
and Laura Snizek '07
(at left), a psychology concentrator
and member of the track
team. Both were attracted with
resources made available by the
Brown Annual Fund.
Professor Keizer, who has expertise
in American studies, African-
American literature, ethnic studies,
and Caribbean literature,
is part of a cadre of professors
hired in the past few years who
have elevated Brown's academic
profile in the humanities and
are continuing to push it forward.
"Brown clearly is enthusiastic
about seeking out and supporting
faculty as engaged scholars
and teachers," she says. "And the
students are intensely engaged
as well. Most faculty dream about
having students who are as smart,
hard-working, and interested
in being challenged as Brown
students are."
Laura, a sprinter, says Brown was her first-choice school, and her scholarship made her attendance here possible. "Brown students are happy," she says. "Everyone here has a passion and is pursuing it. They're all willing to work hard to do what they love. As cheesy as it sounds, Brown students really have the potential to make a difference-they're not about to stand by and let things happen; they're going to make them happen."
