Support for Biology and Medicine

The biomedical and life sciences are among the world’s most dynamic areas of scientific inquiry, and this is reflected in the continuous increase in the number of Brown students enrolled in biomedical sciences courses. In just over 30 years, Brown’s medical school, recently re-christened as The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and one of the youngest medical schools in the country, has attained prominence for its innovative approach to medical education. Its Program in Public Health is a national voice on health policy issues and is assuming even greater leadership, with plans for additional faculty and graduate students and ever-increasing numbers of concentrators in community health.

The Campaign is significantly raising the national and international stature of the biomedical and life sciences at Brown by enabling curricular reforms that benefit undergraduate, graduate, and medical students; substantial investments in interdisciplinary research initiatives; the creation of new centers of excellence, such as computational molecular biology; and the continued success of the Program in Public Health. With Campaign support, faculty and students benefit from state-of-the-art research facilities, including the new Life Sciences Building and a dedicated public health building.
