Zak DeOssie '07 had his pick of
several Ivy League schools but
chose Brown because of its sense
of intimacy and community. "When
I visited, I could tell that the faculty
and students really wanted me to
be there," he says. "Brown is a
great fit for me; I've made the best
friends of my life and have had
the freedom to explore everything
I'm interested in."
A double concentrator in biology
and public policy, Zak is also a
standout on the football field. He
was All-Ivy and All-American in
his sophomore year.
"Student-athletes at Brown are
very supportive of each other,
and the whole Brown community
is supportive-like a big family,"
he says. "To have the school and
the administration behind you
gives you a lot of confidence,
and having them as fans in the
stadium is more than any student
could ask for."
The entire campus community will benefit from a campus-wide fitness center, a facility at the top of the "wish list" of many students, Zak says. "With our rigorous academic schedules, it's so important to get out and exercise, to have some balance in your life and a place to be with other students outside the classroom," he says. "Having bigger, better fitness facilities will bring more students together and create an even stronger sense of community at Brown."
