Alumni of Color Initiative

Through the years, we have witnessed the power of communities coming together and shaping the University through their activism and engagement. Today, Brown's alumni community continues to strengthen the Brown experience to ensure that diversity remains a central focus at the University. Through the ongoing efforts of Boldly Brown: The Alumni of Color Initiative (AOCI), students and faculty have begun to capitalize on and secure the gains made on our campus in the past while enhancing the Brown educational experience.

Alumni of Color Initiative Goal: $6.2 Million

The main components of this multi-dimensional $6.2 million initiative were: immediate support through the Brown Annual Fund for either unrestricted use or Investment in Diversity (which provides financial aid with a preference for students of color with financial need); and perpetual support through gifts to endowed scholarships, the Third World Transition Program, Africana Studies, and U.S. Latino Studies.

Valerie Petit Wilson, Associate Provost & Director of Institutional Diversity"Whether they receive an endowed scholarship as a part of their financial aid, engage in the offerings of the Africana Studies department, participate in a US Latino Studies research project, or are involved with the Third World Transition Program, there are countless young men and women who will benefit directly from alumni support of Boldly Brown: The Alumni of Color Initiative. The deans, department chairs, the Office of Campus Life, other senior administrators, and I believe that there are few rewards greater than working to enhance diversity throughout our campus community so that we all can capitalize on the living and learning opportunities that arise from exposure to a rich variety of perspectives."
