Judging

All eligible videos will be judged concurrently by the following:

  • Panelist of Judges (below) from within the Brown community will evaluate the videos based upon the criteria below and determine the "Judge’s Video Selection":
    • Demonstration of the stated objective
    • Technical Execution
    • Originality
    • Creativity
    • Adherence to the Rules
    • Overall impression
  • An online anonymous vote open to all Brown alumni, students, faculty and staff will determine the “Top Audience Choice Video Selection“ and” Runner-Up Audience Choice Video Selection”

RICHARD C. BARKER ’57, P’03, P’05

RICHARD C. BARKER ’57, P’03, P’05, Chair, Financial Aid Initiative

As Chair of the Financial Aid Initiative, Richard Barker is charged with spearheading the effort to increase scholarship endowment giving to $400 million by December 31, 2010. Richard Barker has been supporting the University in myriad capacities for more than 50 years: two-term trustee, donor, campaign vice chair, overseer of the Watson Institute for International Studies, Brown Sports Foundation board member and much more. His giving spans 85 discrete categories ranging from the Brown Annual Fund to undergraduate research and his awards are equally impressive – The Brown Bear Alumni Award for outstanding volunteer commitment (2000), the Sports Foundation Joukowsky Award for Distinguished Service (2003), and chief Alumni Marshall (2007). In addition, Barker, retired Chairman of Capital Guardian Trust and Vice Chairman of Capital Group International, has recently been named chair of the board of the San Francisco Ballet.

Dick Barker’s favorite film is Chinatown.

KATHERINE BERGERON

KATHERINE BERGERON, Dean of the College, Brown University

A graduate of Wesleyan University, with an M.A. and Ph.D. in musicology from Cornell, Dean Bergeron initially came to Brown as a Professor of Music in 2004. She was named Dean of the College in 2006. Her research interests include French cultural history, musical modernism, the discipline of musicology, experimental music, song, opera, poetry and film. In addition to her scholarship, Dean Bergeron is a singer who has enjoyed performing a wide range of music, including Gregorian Chant and the blues, the court music of central Java, as well as experimental music and free improvisation.

Katherine Bergeron’s favorite film is Persona.

LAUREN CORRAO ’83

LAUREN CORRAO ’83, President, Original Programming and Development, Comedy Central

As President for Original Programming and Development, Corrao is responsible for the development and supervision of all original programming on Comedy Central, known for some of the most successful series on television and for its industry-leading development of original content created specifically for digital platforms. Since joining Comedy Central in 2002, the network has seen the highest ratings in its history and ratings-winners like “The Sarah Silverman Program,” “RENO 911,” “Mind of Mencia,” “Drawn Together,” “Lil Bush” and “Chappelle’s Show” have made Corrao a key player in Comedy Central’s’ phenomenal growth. Corrao holds a B.A. in Semiotics from Brown University where she currently serves on the Women’s Leadership Council, as well as the Women’s Mentorship Program.

Lauren Corrao’s latest favorite film is Little Miss Sunshine. Favorite TV shows include I Love Lucy, the Dick Van Dyke Show, Daily Show, and South Park.

MARGARET KLAWUNN

MARGARET KLAWUNN, Vice President for Campus Life & Student Services, Brown University

Margaret Klawunn has been at Brown for 12 years and has worked with students both inside and outside the classroom. As Vice President for Campus Life & Student Services Margaret has primary responsibility for planning and setting policies that improve the campus environment for Brown’s undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Prior to her current role, she taught courses on American Literature, feminist theory, and women writers. Her interests in teaching and advising have informed her work in Campus Life and Student Services. Margaret holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Literatures in English from Rutgers University.

JIM TILTON

JIM TILTON, Director, Office of Financial Aid, Brown University

Jim Tilton has worked in the financial aid profession for more than twenty-five years. Immediately prior to his position at Brown he focused on higher education policy issues and legislation at the US Department of Education in Washington D.C. from 2004-2006. He is the former Executive Director of Student Financial Services at Columbia University. Prior to Columbia, he held the position of Assistant Dean of Yale College, where he also served as the Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid. A veteran of the US Navy, he holds a BS in Business Management from San Diego State University and a Masters in Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

MATT VASCELLARO '07

MATT VASCELLARO ‘07

Matt Vascellaro graduated from Brown in 2007 with a degree in Modern Culture and Media. Having wrote and directed 4 seasons of 2 original sitcoms while at Brown, "White Brown Friends" and "ELECTED" , Matt moved to Los Angeles and began creating original comedy content for the web. He has created original series for Sony Pictures Television Online, as well as numerous independent series that appear on platforms such as "Hulu". Recently his online work gained the attention of the television industry as he was offered a blind script deal for a television pilot by 20th Century Fox Television.

Matt’s favorite TV show of the moment is Summer Heights High.

RONALD VANDEN DORPEL ’71 A.M.

RONALD VANDEN DORPEL ’71 A.M., Senior Vice President for University Advancement and Campaign Director, Brown University

As Senior Vice President for University Advancement, Ron Vanden Dorpel is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Development Office and Alumni Relations, including leading the $1.4 billion Boldly Brown: Campaign for Academic Enrichment – the largest campaign in Brown’s history. Mr. Vanden Dorpel came to Brown in 2002 after fifteen years as the Vice-President for University Development and Alumni Relations at Northwestern University. During his tenure at Northwestern he planned and implemented Northwestern’s highly successful $1.56 billion comprehensive campaign (1997-2002), a campaign that raised over $700 million in gifts to endowment and over $390 million in gifts for new construction and renovations. Prior to his appointment at Northwestern, Mr. Vanden Dorpel served in senior development positions at Yale (1983-87) and Brown (1979-83). He holds degrees from The Ohio State University and from Brown and served as a Regular Air Force officer from 1971-76 and as an Air Force Reserve officer from 1976-93, retiring as a colonel.
